The Backstory
I was a resident DJ at a live music venue in Huntington, WV—now The LOUD, formerly the VClub—and had been on and off since I started. When playing in a live music venue, you cater your set to the bands on the bill. I played mostly for bands that were mostly indie and metal… and then this kid from Kentucky showed up.
I didn’t have a lot of experience playing with a country artist, but I loved what Tyler was doing and decided to put what I knew of country music (I had always liked the funkier country of the late 60s and early 70s, and the country funk albums released by Light in the Attic label also helped) into playing into bills with him. We loved what one another was doing, and that sparked a friendship.
That mutual inspiration led to nights hanging out and more shows together to Tyler asking me to work on an album (what would become Joyful Noise), and eventually, where I am now—me touring with him and the boys, also folks I call friends from the close-knit musical community that is Huntington, WV.
What you are hearing now is a culmination of that time together. This volume includes more of the upbeat stuff before the band hits the stage. Later volumes might sound different, but at the center of Country And Western And Beats is a lot of excitement and being lucky enough to be on he road with incredibly talented musicians and even better human beings.
I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for listening.
